Stolen from Nichole's blog

Hehe. I saw this on Nichole's blog and I knew I had to try it since I love geography and these little quiz kind of things. I was really surprised I've been to so many states--although a few of these I've just driven through! (Does that count?)

Edit--Wooo! It's working. Thanks for the help Ashley!

Bleh

Today was pretty boring. I worked on database stuff all day, so they time just dragged on and on and on and on and on and on and . . . you get the picture. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

Happy Birthday to me!

Yay! It's my birthday. I never knew anyone with the same birthday as me growing up, but for some reason I now know a lot of people born on the same day. The Doctor That I'm Scared Of (see post from a while ago) has the same birthday (he had a banner saying so over his desk today). So does my sister-in-law's boyfriend (If they get married it'll be really easy for my in-laws to remember their children-in-laws birthday!) Hehe--I heard a song by the Beatles on my iPod called "Birthday." It goes something like this . . . "They say it's your birthday /It's my birthday too!" Imagine it with rock guitar. It's funny. I had it stuck in my head all day.

Good gravy!

It's been almost a week since I've blogged! I really don't have much to say--so I guess I'll share tidbits from the week . . .

I found the other Ed Kellogg picture at MD Anderson. He is the art professor at Covenant, and I read that he had 2 paintings at MD Anderson. I found one during orientation for work (it's in the main entrance!) The other is almost as big and is in the escalator bank in the ACB building. Kellogg's paintings remind me so much of North Georgia/Tennessee Valley--it makes me miss home!

I bought an iPod! I guess that's pretty cool. I've wanted one forever and so for my birthday I bought one. (I know it's a bit early still, but that's okay.) It's my new best friend--we're attached at the hip (quite literally!) I love it!

Hmmm . . . could my week have been more boring? Maybe I'll have more to say tomorrow. Sorrry!

Really cool exhibit

Hubby and I headed back over to the Houston Museum of Natural Science to see the Body Worlds exhibit. It was so COOL! The exhibit consists of body's that have been donated to science that were plastinated--which means they underwent a chemical process to convert tissue to plastic. Each body was dissected a certain way in order to see certain things--for example, one is dissected to see superficial muscle, another deep muscle, another to see the skeleton and nerves, etc. Many are done as artwork--three of the bodies were sitting at a table playing poker, one was riding a horse, and another (which was pretty creepy) was pulling out its insides.

With all these plastinated bodies were plastinated organs. You could see a normal hip bone next to one with severe osteoporosis, a healthy liver next to on with cirrhosis, and, of course, a smoker's lung next to a healthy one. If anything convinces me not to smoke, it's seeing the difference between the two lungs. The smoker's lung was swollen and solid black--I can't imagine trying to breathe with those lungs! I'm so glad I never started smoking!

Anyway, the exhibit will be here until September, so if anybody wants to come visit I'll take you!

Enough already!

I'm sick again! Bleh. This time around I have a sore throat and my head feels like it's going to explode. I haven't skipped work yet, since I'm well enough to function, but it's annoying all the same. On top of that, my period just started and I have horrible cramps. I may head off to bed . . .

Hello, my name is Beth . . .

. . . and I have an addiction.

Okay, so Hubby isn't the best event planner. He and his friends made dinner plans for Wednesday night. *Sigh* I was bummed because I would have to miss some TV (specifically the American Idol voting off show). Well, they had to reschedule for tomorrow, which is even worse--it's the night that everybody sings! And I'm going to miss it!

Yes, it's sad. Yes, I know I have a problem. I'm more than willing my social life for a TV show, and not just any TV show, a reality TV show. Am I lame or what? :-)

Escape from Houston

Hubby and I had a great weekend in Dallas! We just got back from a really beautiful wedding. The bride is a friend of Stu's from high school, so he got to see tons of old friends and teachers. It was a lot of fun, and it was great to meet some of his high school friends!

Here's Hubby and I ready to go to the wedding! I love my new silver shoes! Aren't they cute?

Peyton, Stu's mom Gail, Stu, and me

And the whole gang--friends, teachers, family, and of course, the happy bride and groom!

Shoot me now!

Okay, so I said if I actually attempt to change the outcome of American Idol, that I should be seriously hurt. I refuse to say who I'm voting for, but someone needs to pry the phone from my hands!

Pictures for Ashley!

This is me then . . .

. . . This is me now.

Okay. So I saw Ashley's wedding page and realized that the picture she has of me is almost 6 years old! To remedy this, I decided to post tons of pics so Ashley can pick something more recent. (hehe--Here are some more current pics for your collection Ashley!)

Okay, so I got home from work and put on my flouncy skirt and had Hubby snap away. These were the better ones . . .

Here's me on the balcony, enjoying the beautiful evening in Houston. It's 70 degrees and a light breeze is blowing . . . and the rodeo festivities can be seen down the street.

Here's me supporting me favorite restaurant--Chick-fil-A. Hubby's hand got in the way, but it's cute all the same!

And my favorite pic! Me with my beloved pansies. They make great pets--they're easy to care for and let you know when they are thirsty.

So here you go Ashley! More pics to choose from. Feel free to steal these or any others you like from my blog. :-)

Small disappointment

Today was another absolutely gorgeous day! Once again the high got into the mid-70s. It was great to wear short sleeves and not be cold! Hubby and I walked part of the way over to the Houston Museum of Natural Science (the other part we took the rail.) We walked through Hermann Park, so it was a great stroll and we got to see the azaleas and redbuds blooming.

When we got to the museum, we noticed that it look like a wedding reception on the side with catered food and a band under really big white tents. We didn't think anything of it until we got to the museum entrance, when we saw a sign saying that the whole thing was closed for the rest of the day! It was quite a disappointment. I guess someone was rich enough to rent the whole place out! There is a new exhibit Hubby and I really want to see, but I guess we'll have to wait for another day.

Such a beautiful day!

Today was absolutely gorgeous outside! The high was around 75 degrees, the sky was clear, and spring is well on its way (although since it doesn't get cold here, it isn't stunning like in Atlanta.) The azaleas are blooming near my work, and they are so pretty! I'm hoping tomorrow will be just as pretty so I can actually enjoy the day instead of being couped up inside a lab!

Only in Texas

Ok, so the Houston Rodeo is in town and it's a HUGE deal (for some strange reason) and today I saw these grandparents with their three granddaughters at the MetroRail stop. The little girls were so cute--maybe 5 years old or so. They were all wearing cowprint skirts, T-shirts with Texas on the front (with cowprint inside the state) and pink hairbows and cowboy boots. I wish I had my camera!
